In a modern day David versus Goliath matchup, Democratic Party endorsed Bert Hill is hoping that new hardware and software from Apple will help him to take down Republican James Fang, a man born into one of San Francisco’s most powerful political families. Hill, a retired Bechtel Financial Cost manager with over 25 years experience in multibillion dollar developments, thinks the new technology will provide an equalizing effect to the old-boys-network that turns a blind eye to Fang’s Republican roots and allows him to control billions of development dollars and millions of advertising dollars.
Hill’s marketing director, Antonio White explains, “Bert does not have Fang’s millions, so we have to be creative and leverage technology to engage the voter base and make the case for choosing Democrat Hill over Republican Fang.
The Apple advantage
White got the big idea for a new type of viral campaign after watching Steve Jobs introduce Apple’s new iLife software suite, within the new application suite is an update to the company’s popular iMovie program. “When I saw the new “Movie Trailer Template” feature from iMovie 11, I knew exactly how I could use it to our advantage,” said White, referring to his choice to create a series of political messages, humorously delivered as Blockbuster style movie genre spoofs.
Bert Hill as James Bond, Indiana Jones and Bruce Willis archetype characters was a perfect metaphor for casting Hill as a hero, brought out of retirement to save San Francisco from over-bloated BART development deals that focus the overwhelming majority of development and jobs outside of San Francisco, even though the city is by far has the highest ridership usage of any county.
White used Apple’s iMovie to take random footage from his iPhone 4G and craft a Bert Hill movie “Trilogy” so deliver a series of serious political messages in a very humorous way. “People are tired of political mud-slinging and I believe Bert’s positive and entertaining campaign is a refreshing change of pace.”
