9 August 2010Two U.S. Marines were killed in southern Afghanistan Saturday while a prisoner was trying to escape, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force announced Monday.
The prisoner escaped a room where he was observing prayer time, somehow got hold of a rifle, then fought Afghan and coalition forces, according to an ISAF press release.
The Marines were slain while trying to subdue the prisoner, and the prisoner was shot dead by small-arms fire, the ISAF said.
