The Senate will vote on Thursday June 24th on the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act of 2010 (CISADA); the House vote will take place as early as Friday June 25th.
For the past several months, the Senate and House have been working to reconcile different Iran sanctions bills previously passed by both bodies.
If implemented, this legislation would impose crippling sanctions on Iran and stands the best chance to persuade the regime to end its illicit nuclear program through diplomatic, political, and economic means.
Among its many provisions, the bill would require the President to impose sanctions on companies investing in Iran’s energy sector or helping Iran import refined petroleum.
It also prevents U.S. banks from engaging with foreign banks that aid in Iran’s illicit activities, forcing these banks to end their dealings with Iranian financial institutions.
