THE NIGHT BEFORE KWANZAA
18TH ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY
Pacific Gas and Electric Company will encourage energy efficiency during the holidays by brightening this year’s Macy’s Holiday tree at Union Square with 20,000 light-emitting diode (LED) holiday lights for the first time in the 18-year history of the tree lighting ceremony.
In addition, PG&E will give away 3,500 strands of LED holiday lights in Union Square prior to the tree lighting ceremony.
ROCK N ROLL HANNUKAH
The giveaway is part of PG&E’s broader efforts to educate people on the benefits of using energy efficient lighting and to encourage them to put these energy efficient lighting options to use in their homes and businesses.
LED holiday lights reduce energy consumption by as much as 90% and produce bright light for up to 20 holiday seasons, compared to traditional lights.
LED holiday lights also use a light that produces almost no heat, thereby reducing fire potential.
PG&E’s 20,000 LED holiday lights will help Macy’s generate a collective savings of more than 100,000 kilowatt hours annually and prevent the emission of 60 tons of greenhouse gases this holiday season.
LORD OF RAMADAN
Additionally, PG&E’s LED holiday light giveaway will potentially generate a collective savings of more than 11,000 kilowatt hours annually and prevent the emission of more than 120 tons of greenhouse gases over the lifetime of the lights.
The Holiday Tree Lighting will be held in Union Square, from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 23 2007.
