The San Francisco Veterans Memorial Project will fulfill the mission and original 1920s vision for the San Francisco War Memorial Complex.
Situated between the War Memorial Opera House and Veterans Building, Memorial Court was intended as a site to pay tribute to veterans sacrifices; a serene place to reflect and to honor those who served our nation defending our freedom.
Framed by San Francisco City Hall, the Veterans Memorial will honor the extraordinary dedication, commitment and sacrifice of those who have borne the battle, and will offer a site of contemplation to reflect, to remember and to heal.
Today, the site contains soils from battlefields where Americans have fought for their country. Donate Today! Help Keep the Promise!
All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Our Veterans – View San Francisco Veterans Memorial Documentary and full interviews with veterans. Project Proposal – The San Francisco Veterans Memorial inlcudes a nationwide design competion with the winning design to be chosen in 2011.
With the addition of soils from current and future battlefields, the proposed Veterans Memorial will ensure the legacy of these consecrated grounds for future generations.
The Veterans Memorial Project is a collaborative effort, uniting the San Francisco War Memorial Board of Trustees, veterans groups, the San Francisco Arts Commission, and the participation of the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Ballet, in a common cause to honor the sacrifices of our nations military veterans.
A nationwide design competition will occur this year, with the final design selection announced in early 2011.
The project will incorporate environmentally responsible design, and include an endowment to support the memorials ongoing maintenance and upkeep.
The Veterans Memorial will be constructed with private funds and is planned to be formally dedicated within three years.
