JOSE SARRIA PAYS A VISIT TO SAN FRANCISCO GLBT HISTORICAL SOCIETY – ON SCENE WITH BILL WILSON

The founder of the Imperial Court system, Jose Sarria paid a visit to San Francisco where he held court at the Castro exhibit space of the GLBT Historical Society.

He attended an opening reception for a mini exhibit of some of the things he has donated to the archives. One of the four dresses he has donated was on display as well as flyers and posters for events at the Black Cat and other San Francisco venues.

Pink champagne flowed as guests had a chance to met and talk with Jose, who kept saying, “I’ve come to answer questions, not pose for pictures.” He did a lot of both.

The exhibition space at the corner of 18^th and Castro will be closing on October 18 so from now until the closing there will be free admission.

It has been ten years since I first joined Empress Jose, The Widow Norton on her annual trek to Colma to visit the gravesite of Emperor Norton.

Jose proved once again that he can entertain a crowd and has lost none of his wit or his ability to inspire.
