San Francisco Public Library’s Ingleside branch opened on Saturday September 12.

This most recently completed project means that 11 of the 24 projects scheduled under the library Branch Improvement Bond passed by voters in 2000 have been finished.

This branch is one of four that replaces branches that were formerly housed in buildings leased by the city. Designed by Fougeron Architecture/Group 4, the new 6,100-square-foot branch will provide a prominent civic presence on Ocean Avenue, adding to the revitalization of this commercial strip at the nexus of a diverse community.

Planning is already beginning for housing and retail on the Kragen Auto site to the east of the library.

Cloudy weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of gathered residents who came to celebrate the library and view the results of years of planning and fundraising.

One of the features of the library is one room that can be closed off from the library providing community groups with the ability to access it after library hours.
