RETAILERS AND MANUFACTURERS HELP DRIVE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS EFFICIENCY - PROGRAM SET APRIL 9 - HOSTED BY PG&E and SMUD

7 April 2009

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) will launch a first-of-its-kind Business and Consumer Electronics Program with retailers and manufacturers that encourages consumers to save energy and lower their electricity costs.

Brian Cooley, Editor-at-Large of CNET will moderate.

Participants include Brad Whitcomb, Vice President of Marketing and Customer Innovation, PG&E; Paul Lau, Deputy Assistant General Manager, SMUD; Katharine Kaplan, EPA Team Lead, ENERGY STAR Product Development; and, Stephanie Fleming, Senior Manager, Residential Sector, Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA).

The event will include an interactive discussion with representatives from participating retailers and manufacturers.

Business and consumer electronics will represent a significant and increasing proportion of total electricity used in homes and businesses.

Realizing that the demand for electronics will continue to increase at a rapid pace, PG&E and SMUD offer the electronics industry a program that will help accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient electronics in the market and ultimately make these electronics readily available for customers’ purchases.
