Funeral services will be held Friday for the Oakland police officers who were fatally shot Saturday by a wanted parolee.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. at the Oracle Arena at 7000 Coliseum Way in Oakland, according to Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.
The shooting began just after 1 p.m. when Sgt. Mark Dunakin, 40, and Officer John Hege, 41, stopped the gunman, 26-year-old Oakland resident Lovelle Mixon in the 7400 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
Mixon, who was wanted on a no-bail warrant for violating his parole and assault with a deadly weapon, shot both officers and then fled to a nearby apartment complex.
Police called in a SWAT team, which attempted to enter the apartment, and Mixon began firing at the officers, killing Sgt. ErvinRomans, 43, and Sgt. Daniel Sakai, 35, and grazing a third officer.
Officers returned fire and killed Mixon.
Dunakin, Romans and Sakai were pronounced dead on Saturday. Hege remains on life support, but was declared brain dead Sunday morning and taken off life support later that week, according to police.
Hege donated his heart, kidneys, and liver, to a total of four men so that they might live.
Funeral services are open to the public, but officials are asking attendees to arrive early.
