GAVIN NEWSOM CARNY LEAVING SF FOR EIGHT AUSLANDER COMMUNITIES
6 February 2009
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s exploratory campaign for Governor today announced eight additional town hall meetings across California, building upon a series of successful events in Northern California that have attracted more than 1,500 people over the past three months.
The exploratory campaign has drawn upon its massive online presence – more than 25,000 friends on Facebook and more than 50,000 email supporters – to bring thousands of people into the political process.
The forums will continue next week in San Jose and Stockton before moving to the rest of the state.
“The turnout for our town halls has been remarkable,” said Mayor Gavin Newsom.
“People across this state are sharing their thoughts about the future of California and it is very clear that they are looking for a new way forward.”
“I’m looking forward to the next series of meetings around California,” Newsom added. “We need real solutions to the serious problems our state is facing, and they’re not going to be found in Sacramento.”
Newsom has already held town hall meetings in Marin, Sonoma, Santa Clara and Contra Costa counties. The town halls follow a strong six-month fundraising period where Newsom nearly matched or surpassed the other likely candidates for Governor in primary funds raised. Newsom’s exploratory effort was launched July 1, 2008.
