San Francisco Voice for Israel Protests Rising Anti-Semitism in Venezuela
On Tuesday February 3 at 5:00 p.m., local pro-Israel activists will be outside the building housing the Venezuelan consulate at 311 California Street, San Francisco.
They will be protesting the latest in a series of anti-Semitic incidents in Venezuela– the vandalization and desecration of a synagogue in Caracas by 15 armed men on January 31.
The government of Venezuela has orchestrated a campaign of anti-Semitic incitement that has concerned watchdog groups such as the Simon Weisenthal Center. A pro-government digital newspaper, Aporrea.org, has gone as far as to publish a “plan of action” against the Jewish community which includes publishing the names and businesses of members of Jewish community institutions in order to boycott them, and even calls for nationalization of the property of Jews who support Israel. Venezuela’s President, Hugo Chavez, is a prominent supporter of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedindejad, and Chavez has opposed any peaceful measures aimed at preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
San Francisco Voice for Israel members will be outside the 311 California Street building to protest the hatred being incited by the Chavez government. We will be passing out informational flyers and inviting people to call the Venezuelan Consulate office with a simple message: “stop inciting anti-Semitism”.
San Francisco Voice for Israel is a non-partisan broad based coalition of activists from all political perspectives, left to right, Jewish and non-Jewish.
