CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER APPOINTMENTS JANUARY 27 2009

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the following appointments.

Marilyn Barraza, 59, of Manhattan Beach, has been appointed to the Area Board X on Developmental Disabilities. She has a 28-year-old daughter with cerebral palsy and cognitive challenges and currently works as a private special education advocate. Since 1987, Barraza has volunteered as a parent trainer and mentor at Harbor Regional Center in Torrance, a non-profit agency that provides case management for persons with developmental disabilities. She served as a case manager at Harbor Regional Center from 2001 to 2003. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Barraza is a Republican.

Adam Hubbard, 36, of Los Angeles, has been reappointed to the California Arts Council. He has served on the council since October 2008. Since 2006, Hubbard has worked as a ceramics instructor at the Archer School for Girls. Additionally, he has worked as a drawing and painting instructor at the Friends of the Cerritos Performing Arts Center since 2005 and has been a visual arts instructor for the KCET’s “Ready to Learn” literacy and art program since 2003. Hubbard worked as a visual arts instructor for the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County from 2001 to 2006, the Orange County Performing Arts Center from 2004 to 2006 and for the Cathedral Chapel School from 2002 to 2006. From 2000 to 2001, he was a ceramics and visual arts instructor for Inner-City Arts. Hubbard was a ceramics teacher at the University of Southern California Magnet Center from 2000 to 2001, and worked at the University of Southern California as a ceramics teacher during the Fall 2000 semester and also as a teacher assistant from 1999 to 2000. He earned a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics and sculpture from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California College of Arts and Crafts, now known as California College of Arts. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Hubbard is a Democrat.

Morgan Lynn, 64, of Auburn, has been appointed executive vice chancellor of the California Community Colleges. Since 2007, she has served as an independent education consultant with Professional Personnel Leasing. Lynn previously served as vice president and assistant superintendent at Sierra College from 2001 to 2007 and Cerritos College from 1990 to 2001. From 1980 to 1990, she served as an industry liaison officer at Santa Monica College. Lynn earned a Doctor of Education from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Northridge. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $138,528. Lynn is a Democrat.

Barbara Meadows, 41, of Atwater, has been appointed to the Area Board VIII on Developmental Disabilities. Since 2005, she has served as a supervising social worker II for the Merced County Human Service Agency. Prior to that, Meadows was an adoptions social worker at Family Connections Adoption from 2004 to 2005 and a social worker IV at the Merced County Human Services Agency from 1998 to 2004. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Meadows is a Republican.

Daniel Owen, 57, of Bishop, has been appointed to the Area Board XII on Developmental Disabilities and the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. He has served as an independent living specialist for Inyo-Mono Advocates for Community Action since 2001 and held the same position for Rolling Start from 2003 to 2005. From 2001 to 2003, Owen served as the director of assisted technology for Inyo-Mono Advocates for Community Action and, from 2002 to 2005, he was a service broker for the Kern Regional Center for Self Determination. Owen founded and served as executive director for Alternative from 1990 to 1999 and served as the program director at United Cerebral Palsy from 1988 to 1991. From 1983 to 1987, he was founded and served executive director for People Without Limits and, from 1981 to 1999, Owen was the recreation coordinator at the Center for Individuals with Disabilities for the city of San Bernardino. These positions do not require Senate confirmation. The Area Board XII on Developmental Disabilities position has no salary and the State Council on Developmental Disabilities position has a compensation of $100 per diem. Owen is a Democrat.

Malissa Feruzzi Shriver, 45, of Los Angeles, has been reappointed to the California Arts Council. She has served on the council since 2005 and has served as vice chair since 2007. Since 1993, Feruzzi Shriver has owned Feruzzi Fine Arts. She previously was a television actress for national commercials including Coca-Cola, Sprite and Union Bay Jeans. She has also served on the Board of the California Music Project since 2007. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Feruzzi Shriver is a Democrat.

Diana Toche, D.D.S, 42, of Clovis, has been appointed statewide dental director for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Since 1991, she has served as dental director for the Central Valley Indian Health. Toche was an associate dentist with Gene Towery, D.D.S from 1989 to 1990, then with Michael Crookham, D.D.S. from 1989 to 1991. She is a member of the Quality Assurance Committee, Contract Health Services Committee and California Dental Advisory Board. Toche earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry and a Bachelor of Arts degree in management and organizational development from Fresno Pacific University. This position was created in response to a court order and does not require Senate confirmation. The compensation is $198,000. Toche is a Republican.

Jennifer Walsh, 36, of Colma, has been appointed to the Area Board V on Developmental Disabilities. She has served as a community connector for the Community Living Campaign since March 2008 and has been the San Francisco and Northern Alameda People First Chapter Advisor since 2004. Walsh was also a Partners in Policymaking California graduate then went on to serve the following 2008 class as an accessibility consultant. She was a mentor with Community Leadership and Advocacy in Mentorship from 2004 to 2005, a program support specialist for The Bridge School from 2001 to 2003 and an administrative assistant at DogsHelp from 1998 to 2001. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Walsh is a Republican.
