DONNA SACHET – At the RRAZZ ROOM, December 15th–18th

For 15 years, DONNA SACHET has gathered a group of talented friends together, performing holiday songs in an intimate cabaret setting to usher in the season of caring and to benefit the AIDS Emergency Fund. This year’s performers include Abigail Zsiga, Sharon McKnight, Kim Kuzma, Vicki Shepard, Kathleen Antonia, Bill Bunn III, the musical ensembles SDK and Six in the City, along with ventriloquist Ron Coulter & Sid. Opening night also features a lavish pre-show reception hosted by long-time supporter Lu Conrad and catered by Taste. All three performances are followed by a complimentary sparkling Barefoot Wine reception.

Seventeen years ago, DONNA SACHET started her adventure in San Francisco and the City has applauded her fun-loving spirit, quick wit, and musical talent ever since. In 1993 she was selected Miss Gay San Francisco and two years later became the thirtieth elected Empress of the City. Donna can be seen throughout the Community, judging contests, emceeing fund-raisers, cutting ribbons, and hosting parties. She has entertained at venues as varied as The Plush Room, the Castro Theatre, Great American Music Hall, the Grand Staircase of City Hall, and Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco and in Washington, D.C. at the foot of the Washington Monument, in Sydney, Australia for Gay Mardi Gras, in New York City at the Marriott Marquis on Broadway, in Los Angeles at the Metropolitan Community Church with the cast of Mama Mia, and in Chicago for the San Francisco Party at the International Mr. Leather Competition. She has shared the live stage with Lily Tomlin, Harvey Fierstein, Bruce Vilanch, Rita Moreno, Carol Channing, Joan Ryan, and the late Nell Carter.

As a live singer and tireless fund-raiser DONNA SACHET has received many awards, but she is most proud of her annual SONGS OF THE SEASON holiday variety show, which has raised nearly $250,000 over the past 15 years. She can be heard singing on the benefit holiday compilation Carols Across America, writes a biweekly column for the publication Bay Area Reporter, co-hosts the weekly Comcast cable original program OUT Spoken, stars in the weekly show Sunday’s A Drag at Harry Denton’s Starlight Room atop the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, and has served as a hostess on various RSVP Vacation Cruises. Donna has recently partnered with the SF Convention & Visitors Bureau as its LGBT liaison and press contact.

Born in 1982 of the Leather Community during the early years of the AIDS crisis in San Francisco, AIDS Emergency Fund provides financial assistance with basic human needs to those facing the challenges of debilitating HIV and AIDS. Because of tight management and corporate support, all money raised at events like SONGS OF THE SEASON goes directly to client services, not administrative costs. Besides raising significant funds for AEF, DONNA SACHET has introduced AEF to a new public and broadened its base of contributors with this professionally run, crowd pleasing, high profile event.

After the closing of the venerable Plush Room of the York Hotel, Songs of the Season finds a new home this year. Enter the sparkling marble lobby of Hotel Nikko at 222 Mason Street through the spacious Asian inspired bar and proceed into this new and sophisticated night club offering the finest in world class cabaret, jazz, comedy and popular music. In its first year of operation, The Rrazz Room has dazzled SF audiences with appearances by Chita Rivera, Rita Moreno, Diahann Carroll, Paula West, Paula Stanley, Jackie Beat, Coco Peru, and Spencer Day. The Yamaha state of the art sound system, modern lighting capabilities, luxurious tiered seating, and ongoing light food service from in house restaurant Anzu all combine to assure an unforgettable experience.
