Democratic vice presidential hopeful Senator Joseph Biden has taped on an episode of Ellen to oppose California’s proposed constitutional gay marriage ban.
In the episode slated to air Monday, Biden entered to David Bowie’s Changes, DeGeneres quipped, welcoming the Democratic vice presidential candidate the same way his Republican counterpart did at the onset of their October 2 debate: “Can I call you Joe?”
Biden told DeGeneres, who recently married actress Portia de Rossi, that he opposed Proposition 8, an amendment on California’s November ballot which would amend the state constitution to define marriage as solely between one man and one woman.
“If I lived in California, I’d clearly vote against Prop 8,” Biden said.
DeGeneres is spending $100,000 of her own money to run a television commerical opposing Proposition 8.

The Senator also appeared at a fundraiser at West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center Thursday night, at which he repeated his opposition to the measure to about 600 attendees as he stumped for the Obama/Biden ticket.
Biden doesn’t support civil marriage in name for same-sex couples, as he said at the October 2 vice presidential debate, but the Obama/Biden ticket is running on a platform which includes equal benefits for gays on every level of government.
The campaign also backs legislation such as the Uniting American Families Act, which would allow sponsorship of a same-sex spouse for immigration into the United States, the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
BIDEN AND PALIN ON SAME SEX MARRIAGE
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has recently taken issue with Biden’s comments during the debate. Newsom said that Biden needed to be held accountable for straying from the Democratic concept of equality.
“How about the debate two days ago?” Newsom asked during his October 5 address to the Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club.
“I don’t mean this as a critique — because I’m a Democrat like you and I’m very passionate about this ticket this year — but I’m frustrated. I’d be lying to you and misleading you and patronizing you as a Democratic Club that I was particularly proud of the only thing that Sarah Palin and Joe Biden agreed on is the notion that gay people should only run the 90 year dash on equality. That’s what they said. Both of them said that. Sarah Palin agreed with Joe Biden.”
