San Francisco Fleet Week traffic and transit impacts

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) advises San Francisco residents and visitors of the following event-related traffic and service impacts this holiday weekend, Thursday, Oct. 6 through Monday, Oct. 10.

Event participants and fun seekers should check sfmta.com or call 311 to find out which of the 80 Muni lines will get them where they want to go.

U.S. Navy Fleet Week

Fleet Week will be held along Fisherman’s Wharf and the Marina District, Thursday, Oct. 6 through Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The SFMTA will provide complimentary access to Muni service for all military personnel (with Military ID or in uniform) October 5 through 11 in honor of Fleet Week.

The Blue Angels will practice on Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday between 12:30 and 4 p.m.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Parade of Ships, two air shows and ship tours will be held to celebrate the U.S. Navy Fleet Week. These events will impact the Fisherman’s Wharf area and the Marina District.

The celebration will begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Parade of Ships and continue on Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. with the air show. Ship tours will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. A crowd of 300,000 is expected each weekend day.

Jefferson Street between Hyde Street and westerly terminus will be closed from 5 a.m., Friday to 6 p.m., Sunday.

Muni’s 47 Van Ness bus route and F Market & Wharves streetcar line will be supplemented on Saturday and Sunday to accommodate the crowds for these events.

Columbus Day Holiday Muni Schedule and Parking Enforcement

On Monday for the Columbus Day Holiday Muni will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

Parking meters and seven day street sweeping will be enforced citywide on Columbus Day holiday. Commuter tow away, residential parking permits and Monday-Friday street sweeping will not be enforced.

Meters on Port of San Francisco property, including The Embarcadero and Fisherman’s Wharf, are enforced 7 days per week throughout the year. Hazards are always subject to citation and towing.

Excelsior Arts and Music Festival

On Sunday the 9th annual Excelsior Arts and Music Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following street closures will be required from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

· Ocean Avenue between Mission and Alemany streets

· Persia Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Mission Street

· Ruth Street between Watson and Mission streets

· Intersection: Persia and Ocean avenues

The 14 Mission and the 49 Mission-Van Ness Muni routes will be affected.

SF Decompression Heat The Street Faire

On Sunday the celebration of the 12th Decompression and the 25th year of Burning Man will take place from noon until midnight.

The following street closures will be required between 7 a.m., Sunday and 2 a.m., Monday:

· Indiana Street between Mariposa and 22nd streets

· 19th Street between Minnesota and Indiana streets

· 20th Street between Minnesota and Indiana streets

· Intersection of 19th, 20th, and Indiana streets

The 22 Fillmore Muni route may experience heavy ridership.

Italian Heritage Parade

On Sunday the 143rd annual Italian Heritage Day Parade will be held in North Beach and Fisherman’s Wharf beginning at 12:30 p.m. from Jefferson and Powell streets. The parade will head west on Jefferson Street to Leavenworth Street, south on Leavenworth Street, south on Columbus Avenue, south on Stockton Street, east on Vallejo Street, north on Columbus Avenue, north on Stockton Street, west on Filbert Street past the reviewing stage, and north on Powell Street where the parade units will disband.

The parade formation will require the following street closures, beginning at 8 a.m.:

· Powell Street between Chestnut and Beach streets

· Stockton Street between Bay and North Point streets

· Beach Street between Powell and Stockton streets

· North Point Street between Mason Street and The Embarcadero

· Francisco Street between Stockton and Mason streets

The parade route will be closed to traffic until the parade clears.

The following Muni lines and routes will be affected:

· Powell-Mason Cable Car

· F Market & Wharves

· 8X Bayshore Express

· 30 Stockton

· 39 Coit

· 45 Union/Stockton

· 47 Van Ness

49ers Football Game

On Sunday the San Francisco 49ers will host their third home game of the regular season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting at 1:05 p.m. at Candlestick Park.

Motorists should expect delays on all bridges and freeways leading into San Francisco for at least two hours before the start of the game and for at least two hours after the end of the game. Fans attending the games are encouraged to take public transportation. For more information, go to sfmta.com/football or use the 49ers regional transit map.

Muni offers several ways to get to Candlestick Park from locations throughout San Francisco. There are four Muni Express routes and two Shuttles.

The Muni Express route is Special Event Fare Service

•Adult fare: $12 roundtrip
•Youth/Senior/Disabled fare: $10 roundtrip•Muni monthly pass, Passport or CityPass Special Event Add-on fare: $8 roundtrip (adult and discount pass holders)

The Candlestick Shuttles are regular fare service, $2 adult per trip and $.75 for youth/senior/disabled per trip.

In order for Clipper customers with a monthly pass to obtain the add-on fare discount, at least $8 in cash value must be loaded to their Clipper cards prior to boarding the special event Muni service.

Customers can load their cards online at clippercard.com (please allow at least five days for processing), or at one of the participating Clipper vendors or ticket vending machines in a Muni Metro station. Please go to sfmta.com for fare details.

For service to and from the game, T Third customers should transfer at the Gilman/Paul station to the 87 Candlestick Shuttle, which operates directly between the station and Candlestick Park.

On Sunday, Muni customers may purchase their fare in advance. SFMTA staff will sell Muni fares from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the following locations:

· Balboa Park BART Station

· Sutter Street/Sansome Street

Pre-game Service:

· 75X Candlestick Express – from Balboa Park BART

· 77X Candlestick Express – from California and Van Ness

· 78X Candlestick Express – from California and Funston

· 79X Candlestick Express – from Sutter and Sansome

· 86 Candlestick Shuttle – from Bacon and San Bruno

· 87 Candlestick Shuttle – from Third Street and Gillman, T Third Station

Post-game Service:

· 75X Candlestick Express – to Balboa Park BART

· 77X Candlestick Express – to Van Ness and North Point

· 78X Candlestick Express – to California and Funston

· 79X Candlestick Express – to Kearny and Sutter

· 86 Candlestick Shuttle – to Bacon and San Bruno

· 87 Candlestick Shuttle – to Third Street and Gillman, T Third Station
