More Musings on the Shopping Rialto (where they seem to be hearing wedding bells ringing everywhere). Vivian Verlaan Store Director of Ankasa New York told us: “With bridal season approaching, we had this fantastic young couple enter our boutique, asking for non fuddy-duddy bridal bedding. When they saw our Chelsea Silk, smocked collection, they literally cheered. It’s slick and fashion forward, but still in traditional ivory.” Ankasa has become a destination for young engaged couples planning their nuptials who want to register for something totally luxe and exclusive, something not found elsewhere …

Vincent Minuto
of Hamptons Domestics

Vincent Minuto from Hamptons Domestics (New York, Palm Beach, and the Hamptons) told us: “A lot of weddings and rehearsal dinners are being held at vineyards around the Hamptons. Wolffer Estate Vineyard is very popular in Sagaponack. Insane amounts of money are going towards doing weddings at vineyards.” He also said The Laundry Restaurant is “a great place to get married with amazing space in the back.” Vincent is also one of the best kept (because he’s very busy) secrets in New York and Hamptons catering.

If he caters your wedding you run the risk of your guests paying more attention to the food than the bride and groom. His cucumber and watercress tea sandwiches which people serve by the boatload at cocktail parties are often the biggest attraction of any party with guests never leaving the buffet table until there aren’t anymore. They even beat the pig-in-a-blanket (he has good ones of those too) in my book. You never thought a watercress tea sandwich was something you’d become addicted to? I know, maybe it’s something Vincent puts in the sandwich. I think he should package them and sell them in the best gourmet boutiques

Adrienne Meredith of Luxurious Wedding reports that “Wedding planners featured on say that brides are showing a great deal of sentimentality by incorporating personalized elements. Lindsey Maurath Events has designed an entire theme for a wedding using a keepsake hankie from the bride’s grandmother. For the union of two physicians, Elegant Cheese Cakes was called on to design a non-traditional wedding cake that reflected their professions. Their solution for the unique: they brought out on the hand painted chocolate New Yorker. A Trendy Wedding jazzed up a cocktail hour by hanging the escort cards from a 12ft white iron rod tree decorated with hanging white pomander flowers balls and suspended crystals.”

… Welcome to the 21st century and The Second-Wedding Dress! At Pilar Rossi’s Madison Avenue boutique (784 Madison between 66th and 67th) second-wedding dresses and destination wedding outfits are the big trend selling right now. “The bride for her second wedding wants something more subdued and elegant, instead of a typical “wedding gown,” said Pilar Rossi. There is one particular Pilar Rossi pleated chiffon style that is the big favorite. “We call it the Deborah Norville dress.

Even though she wasn’t wearing it for a wedding, she made it popular. It was worn by three brides last Fall at weddings in New York City and in the South of France and London — and in various incarnations, it will be seen on six more ‘second-wedding’ brides this June, for their destinations weddings in Miami, Wisconsin, Lake Como and other places.” The dress has been chosen in bright blues, off whites, reds, soft purples, beiges and various other colors, some in full length and some in the shorter, slightly- below-the knee length. It has a plunging V-neck and a pleated, flowing, lightweight skirt that is perfect for dancing and for comfortable, elegant wear for the entire wedding event.

A bridal bouquet and a boutonniere from LMD

“I like to keep the flower bouquets simple, I don’t want to take away from the beauty of today’s bridal gowns,” says Lewis Miller of LMD floral events interiors. “The brides of New York have access to fashion gowns that are a piece of art. I like the bouquets to look as if the bride gathered the bouquets themselves. The bridesmaids should be the Grace Kelly look – white and cream. There is a lot during the evening that brings in color, so I don’t think there should be a lot of color in the flowers. For groomsmen, I like a big boutonniere, an Edwardian Dandy, to show that the true man can wear flowers.”

… Eric Javits offers re weddings: “Large soft hat shapes are always pretty and romantic for weddings but are best reserved for outdoor garden ceremonies. The softer shades like cream, celadon or shell pink are flattering. An alternative option to wearing a hat is a delicate hairband with a clutter of silk blossoms to one side. Only the tiniest clutches and minaudieres, are appropriate handbags for weddings. Exotic skins in metallic finishes are versatile and pastel or sorbet shades look fresh.”
