San Francisco Superior Court Judge James McBride has been elected as the court’s new presiding judge, the court announced today.
McBride, 57, is a San Francisco native and recently served as the court’s assistant presiding judge.
He was elected Tuesday by the San Francisco bench, composed of 51 judges and 13 commissioners, according to the court.
Beginning Jan. 1, McBride will replace current Presiding Judge David Ballati.
According to the court, McBride, a former police officer, served as an assistant district attorney and later maintained a private civil practice before being appointed as a judge in 1994.
McBride has previously been named Judge of the Year by both the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association and the San Francisco Bar Association’s Barrister Club.
