San Francisco society prepares for Nordstrom’s annual Raphael House fundraiser, the July 9 Nordstrom Fall Fashion Preview, gathering last Thursday evening for the swells to exhort their very best of friends.

Raphael House, the privately funded residence for families in distress, has been a special protectorate of Nordstrom for more than five years.

Expanded fundraising — with fashion exacting men and women exhorted to secure their friends’ July 9 attendance — grew under Raphael House Board Chair Claudia Ross and Raphael House Board Member and Press Committee Chair Sophie Azouaou.

Both women shepherded Thursday evening toward that end.

Ross thanked both co-chairs of the night’s gathering.

“I’d like to thank my two co-chairs this evening — Lisa Grotts and Sophie Azouaou as well.

“The three of us got together and we decided we wanted to have a celebration to celebrate the Nordstrom Fall Fashion Preview that’s going to happen on July 9 at Fort Mason Herbst Pavillion.

“The underlying reason that we’re doing this is the partnership which Nordstrom established with Raphael House over five years ago.

“What we ask of you is that you invite your friends and that you come in and enjoy show.

“Nordstrom does an incredible job of presenting the Fall Fashions.”

“The reality is that Nordstrom has been so incredibly generous to Raphael House for the past five years and I just wanted to say, ‘Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts.’

“As Chair of the Raphael House Board, Raphael house is a very, very special place and we would not be able to exist without a community leader like Nordstrom.

“For that I want to give you huge applause.

“I want to get everyone here to really be the ambassadors of Nordstrom and Raphael House, to promote the event on July 9.

“At the end of the day, we just want you guys to have a really good time and remember that we’re all here for a cause.”

Nordstrom Manager Alan Morrell praised the work of Raphael House.

“We, of course, are very exicted about being able to partner with Raphael House again,” Morell told the gathering.

“I’ve been able to tour Raphael House and I see what great work that you all do, so for those of you who are involved with Raphael House I really want to thank you for all that you do.

“We love fashion, and we love doing great things, so we’re just so happy to partner with you.

“Thank you, we’re honored, and we hope this year will be another great event.”

Raphael House Board Member and Press Committee Chair Sophie Azouaou thanked the evening’s hosts.

“I want to thank my friends Asim and Isha Abdullah, who are not here tonight, for letting us use the house.

“Raphael House is the first shelter for families in San Francisco,” Azouaou reminded the crowd.

“It was established in 1971, and it has housed over 17,000 people.

“So I am very, very touched that all of you are here tonight — that Nordstrom is with us, and helping us, supporting us.

“So please come to the fashion show and spend money for your girlfriends or your wife!
