The threat of mass violence modulated in the late 60s from ‘Long Hot Summer’ through ‘No Justice No Peace’ finally to clichéd (finger points forward) ‘They’ll Be Shooting At You.’
This writer’s gut reaction now, finallly, after all the billions of dollars — if not trillions — this country has thrown at root cause social programs is this:
We have the howitzers. Tell them to go ahead and shoot.
Indeed, this corner suspects we have satellite lasers capable of taking out vile and murderous neighborhoods.
And the silencing blackmail of “Maybe you just don’t like…” black people, latino people, immigrants, the socially disadvantaged, lost its strongarm.
Still, the head, and occassionally the heart, need lockdown the gut.
America would cease to exist as we dreamt it, genuine repression and guerrilla fight-back would terrorize every social strata, and eventually the world would take this country down.
Current elected leadership is balkanized by moving to next photo op geared to higher office, dimming concerted focus on social programs and crime enforcement.
Go ahead and fund social programs crafted by disadvantaged communities.
But clean up the goddam streets.
Time to waste ran out.
